You CAN Celebrate: An appreciate on what 2018 has brought Cans for Kili

As the year comes to a close, most of the Cans for Kili team is celebrating Christmas and taking time to reflect on what the past 12 months have given us. In the spirit of the holiday, which focuses on giving and celebration, here is a look at what 2018 has brought our team and community.

C ans

Admittedly, this may seem like a reach to get started on the connection between Cans for Kili and Christmas, but let’s put it this way: both take a can-do attitude to be successful! Plus, each and every can you give to our team is a gift to us!

H ype

Every time we dream about climbing or get a bag of cans from another supporter, we feel like a kid on Christmas.

R espect

This holiday is about honor and tradition. At Cans for Kili that means respect for yourself, respect for others, respect for animals, and respect for your environment. The Sargent said it best: “Cans for Kili has sparked a new passion in my soul to care for the Earth.” This project has expanded our definition of r-e-s-p-e-c-t.

I nternational

An international holiday and now an international CANpaign! We are so excited to be working with four teams now across the globe! Here’s to making our communities greener in Indianapolis, Denver, Indonesia, and India!

Working beyond our own community has brought us so much. As Maverick said, “Cans for Kili has given me the motivation and opportunity to do something not just for my local community but has given me the opportunity to impact the world beyond my community.”

S tamina

Climbing a 20,000-foot mountain and collecting 1.2 million cans is not for the faint of heart. Nor is your holiday shopping. Thank goodness caffeine will help in both cases.

T ogetherness

This is the time you love (or dread- we won’t tell!) to spend with your family. In many ways, our team is becoming one. We will certainly feel like one after seven days together that involves a lot of climbing and no showering!

M iracles

Christmas is a miracle and so is 1.2 million cans! (Though just not even remotely of the same caliber!) Though miracles imply chance, and we don’t plan to leave it to that.

A ction

Christmas traditions take work and are worth it. That applies to this project for us. Lights, camera, you start unwrapping that mountain of presents and we will start climbing that mountain in Africa! (Just recycle the paper when you are done.)

This is a holiday centered around community and our nonprofit would not be here without your support! Thank you for every supportive note, every can, and every dollar you have shared with us. Our team cannot express how much that means to us!
